The St. Andrews men’s lacrosse team played two games in snowy Ohio last weekend and won both to extend their winning streak to five.

The Knights, now 6-1, started the weekend off by defeating the John Carroll University Blue Streaks 12-11 in overtime on Friday in the snow.

Freshman Jake Brown had an outstanding game for the Knights, as he scored five goals and added two assists. Brown has been having a great first season on campus, as he now has a total of 20 goals.

Freshman midfielders Connor Cather and Cha’sed Miller and senior Dalton Steed also scored for the Knights. Miller also led SAU in assists with three. Randy Loving, another freshman for SAU, collected eight ground balls and won 13 faceoffs. Loving is leading the team in ground balls gathered this season with 47.

The Knights used two goalkeepers against the Blue Streaks. Will Chiasson and Xavier Guerrero allowed five goals each. Chiasson made seven saves while Guerrero made six.

SAU stayed in town after beating JCU to play a neutral-site game against Lawrence Tech from Michigan on Sunday in which they blasted the Blue Devils 18-6. The Knights dominated Lawrence for most of the day, and were up 10-3 at halftime. The lopsided score was also apparent on the statistics page. SAU had twice as many shots as Lawrence, outshooting them 42-21.

The match didn’t always look so one-sided, however. SAU was only up 3-1 after the first quarter. The difference came in the second quarter when the Knights shot the ball 16 times and scored on seven of those attempts.

SAU decided to rotate all five of its defensemen around in the match against Lawrence after the exhausting game against JCU on Friday. Both games were played in cold and wet conditions.

Loving followed up his performance from Friday by adding eight ground balls and going 21-for-24 in faceoffs. He has been a dominating presence for the Knights this season, winning 93 of his 133 faceoff attempts.

SAU will now prepare to travel to Georgia to face Reinhardt University (8-1) on Wednesday.
