Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Earl Henderson, the Rev. Leander “Skip” Blackmon and Brother Ronnie Fields. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory two sons: William “Ronnie” Culbreth and wife Carol of Cleveland, Tenn. and Ricky Dean Strickland of the home, three sisters: Mrs. Kathy Miller Locklear and husband Ronald of Laurinburg, Mrs. Nellie Hardy of Laurinburg, and Mrs. Mable Nance of Raleigh, granddaughter Angela Michelle Locklear of Fayetteville, grandson William ”Shane” Culbreth of Wadesboro, two special great-grandchildren: Chayton Elizabeth Hall of Liberty and Memphis Shane Culbreth of Laurinburg, and special cousin Dot Zielinski. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
Lib was born on Aug. 3, 1925 in Scotland County, a daughter of the late Sims Howell, Sr. and Maggie Penny Howell. She was predeceased by her husband Buck Strickland, son Henry Wayne Strickland, two brothers: Sims Howell, Jr. and Jack Howell, and sister Grace Thompson.
Elizabeth and her husband built Strickland’s Grocery in 1950. She operated the store for more than 25 years of which she sold groceries and gas. She enjoyed cooking for her family always preparing a special birthday dinner for them and making her sweet potato pie for her friends. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Wade Locklear. She attended the Scotland County Schools. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Lib will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
