Sheriff’s deputies are checking an alleged drug dealer off its list of people that law enforcement has been looking for since last year.

Sydmal Currie, 26, of 608 Wills St. was arrested Monday night for two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine, two charges of selling crack cocaine, and two charges of maintaining a vehicle and/or dwelling for the purpose of selling crack cocaine.

Currie was one of the 30 individuals the sheriff’s office has sought since December. Authorities were unable to locate Currie during the sheriff’s “Look Who’s Been Naughty” operation.

As a result of that operation, 17 drug offenders were arrested within the span of several hours on the morning of Dec. 17.

“He was one of the last few guys from the roundup we did in December and we were able to track him down last night and we made an arrest on him,” said Earl Haywood, narcotics investigator for the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

Currie was arrested around 8 p.m. on Monday, having been located in his vehicle on Hasty Road near Highway 401. He was also charged with resist delay and obstruct for failure to comply during his arrest as well as having marijuana in his possession. In addition, he faces prior charges for breaking and entering and assault on a female.

Following Currie’s arrest three suspects from December’s operation remain at large.

“A few since December actually voluntarily came over and turned themselves in over the last month or two once they knew we made that list,” said Haywood. “At the present time there are still three outstanding warrants that need to be served and we’re still actively looking for those subjects.”
