Alvis Baxley Williamson, 85, of the John’s community passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Horace Oxendine. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Mrs. Williamson is survived by her daughters Patricia “Pat” W. Campbell (Richard) of Laurinburg, Dr. Janice Williamson Smith (Col. (Ret.) Gordon) of Gainesville, Va., and Priscilla “Gail” W. Holcombe (Phil) of Shallotte, grandchildren Amanda Rae Smith of Gainesville, Laney Campbell of Cary, Dora Lowery of Laurinburg, and Hannah Holcombe and Zach Holcombe of Knoxville, Tenn., her great-grandchildren Rachel Elaine Smith of Gainesville, Derrick Dimery and Thomas Dimery of Laurinburg, and Chase Jones and Tyler Jones of Cary, and her great-great-granddaughter Lacey Ann Dimery of Laurinburg.

Mrs. Williamson was born on Oct. 30, 1927 in Robeson County, a daughter of the late William and Annie Dora Tyner Baxley. Alvis was employed for 27 years with Waverly Mill and 17 years with Abbott Laboratories from which she retired.

She was dedicated to her family and friends and possessed a strong sense of spirituality and righteousness which is reflected in her family today. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Thomas Williamson, in 2011.

Memorials are requested to be sent to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

Visitation will be from 1:30-3 p.m. at which time the service will begin at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
