James Albert "Hoss" Deese, 88, of Rowland died on Dec. 17, 2012, at his home.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1924.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Hamer Church of God in Hamer, S.C., with the Rev. Joey Nelms and the Rev. Robert Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery.

He is survived by his sister Maggie Oxendine of Charlotte, four sons: Earl T. Deese (Mae), Ronnie Deese (Rogena), Bobby Deese (Theresa), and Jerry Hunt (Debra) all of Rowland, four daughters: Carolyn Strickland (Braxton) and Sara Lois Walters of Rowland and Linda Joyce Hunt (Horace) and Susan Deese (Brien) of Charlotte, two grandchildren reared in the home: Sharon Renee Deese of Rowland and Bobby Edwards of Bennettsville, S.C., 18 other grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at Hamer Church of God. At other times the family will receive at the home place located at 7240 Kitchen Street Road in Rowland.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to two special caregivers: Jan Oxendine and Lena Scott.
