Applications will open in December for heating assistance through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.
Any household can potentially receive benefits from Feb. 1 through March 31 or until funds are exhausted, if all eligibility requirements are met.
Seniors and disabled persons may qualify to receive funds in December and January. Households containing an elderly person aged 60 and above or a disabled person receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services are eligible to receive benefits from Dec. 1 through Jan. 31, or until funds are exhausted. Disabled persons are defined as receiving SSI, SSA, or VA disability.
Those meeting the income guidelines and who are responsible for paying for their own heating bills may apply in December at the Scotland County Department of Social Services from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.
To apply, bring the following items: proof of income; wage stubs; information about savings and checking accounts;and information about any household property, stocks, bond or other assets.

Dec. 5, 6, 12, and 13 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Restoring Hope Center
