This weekend, the St. Mary Catholic Church Ladies’ Guild will offer a one-stop shop for all things Christmas.
The guild’s sixth annual Christmas Bazaar will be held in the fellowship hall of the church, located on Main Street, on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.
Items available will include Christmas decorations, handmade gift items such as quilts, scarves, and stained glass artwork, and a mountain of seasonal baked goods.
“We are doing Christmas cookie boxes where everyone brings cookies and we mix and match and put them in boxes,” said Sue Imbaratto, bazaar co-chair.
Various homemade breads, cakes, and candies as well as pumpkin rolls and pies will also be available.
Children’s items will be housed in a separate room, where children can also decorate their own gingerbread houses for a $5 donation and Santa will visit from 10-11:30 a.m.
“They’ll have stuff in here that the kids can buy for their moms, dads, brothers and sisters, and it’s all going to be cheap,” said Imbaratto.
Funds from the Christmas bazaar will be directed to the ladies’ guild, which supports the St. Mary youth group,, church social events, and provides assistance to the families of recently deceased parishioners.
Several items will also be raffled during the bazaar: a slim six-foot Christmas tree and a portrait of Mother Teresa painted by church member Michael Kennedy. Inspired by a photo in TIME magazine, Kennedy constructed the portrait by stippling, creating an image of Mother Teresa and a child using only small ink dots. The raffle for the tree will be drawn on Saturday, with the portrait winner drawn on Dec. 15.
The St. Mary Knights of Columbus will also raffle a bicycle, with the funds to be sent to New York to support those displaced by Superstorm Sandy.
Tickets for the raffle items will be $1 each or six for $5.
“We hope that the community will come out again this year as they have in the past; they really seem to enjoy it,” said bazaar co-chair Eleanore Cross. “This room is full for hours. We do very well. When we look at what we have and the money that we make, it’s just incredible.”
