The Scots finished just seven strokes behind winner Pinecrest to take second place out of five teams at the Foxfire Golf and Country Club.
Despite the humid conditions, Scotland coach Gary Barfield was pleased with the girl's performances.
"We hung in there and I was real pleased with some of the scores that the girls posted," said Barfield. "We've got alot of depth this year, Pinecrest may have had better scores at the top but throughout our top six, we were pretty close."
"We're going to continue to work and keep getting better but I pleased with how they handled the heat on that tough course," Barfield added.
Coming off a 2009 where she made the all-Southeastern Conference team, Cassie Barringer, looked to continue her success.
The junior shot a team-best 95 while teammate Allison Critcher shot a 101.
Gabby Gaultieri finished with a 106 while Ashley Barringer finished five strokes behind her with a 111.
Reigning all-SEC member Katie McRacken and Caitlin McCormick each shot a 115.
Pinecrest finished with a team total of 406, Scotland had a 413 while Richmond (419) and Hoke (519) took spots three and four with Purnell Swett rounding out the pack.
"We wanted to win but we were able to close the gap on Pinecrest from last year and we played at a tough course," Barifield said. "It was an awfully long course to walk for the girls and it was awfully hot so it took a toll on all of the teams."
The Scots will return to the greens next Tuesday (Sept. 7) at Hoke. They are scheduled to tee off at 2 p.m. from the Bayonet Golf Club.
