An early-morning blaze destroyed a Laurinburg family's home along with a camper.

No one was injured.

The Laurinburg Fire Department was contacted just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday about a fire at 11781 Lytch Street, finding the home and a nearby camper engulfed in flames, according to a fire report.

It took 25 firemen more than three hours to extinguish the blaze, with a midday rekindle.

The fire destroyed the home, causing nearly $100,000 in damage, the report said. Investigators believe an electrical fire began in the garage and spread to the house.

Interim Fire Chief John Evans said a person at the home woke up and smelled smoke. The victim quickly realized there was a fire and got everyone out of the house, Evans said.

Gibson and McColl fire departments also aided in fighting the blaze, along with the Scotland County chapter of the American Red Cross.

Carol Ann Lentz, executive director for the American Red Cross, said the agency helped six people with emergency food and clothing.

The family was able to find a place to stay and did not need emergency shelter, she said.
