Mark Allen Locklear, of 494 Pawley Lane, was arrested around 10 a.m. on Thursday, according to Lt. Kathy Torre of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with first-degree rape of a child under 13
Locklear is accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl, who received medical treatment and was released, according to Torre. He remains jailed under a $500,000 secured bond.
The girl was spending the night at her grandfather’s house in Maxton on Wednesday when the rape occurred, Torre said.
Torre said it was fairly common for the victim to spend the night at her grandfather’s place because she lives nearby. The victim normally slept on the floor next to her grandfather’s bed. The night of the rape the girl awoke and went into another bedroom, said Torre.
When her grandfather awoke during the night and saw the child was no longer beside him on the floor, he assumed she had gone home, Torre said.
The 11-year-old was awakened by Locklear climbing on top of her, according to Torre. The girl "got away" from Locklear and ran to another relative’s house.
Locklear is a friend of the victim's family, Torre said.
The girl was transported to Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg where she was seen by a specialist, and then taken to UNC Chapel Hill. The victim was released to her mother Thursday morning.
