Julia Brissett, the assistant principal of Jenkins High School in Savannah Ga., was unanimously approved as the new principal of the Scotland High School of Health Sciences by the Scotland County Board of Education at a called meeting on Monday night.
Superintendent Rick Stout says she's a "good addition to the staff" with a "wealth of experience" in secondary education.
Brissett has had a lot of experience in her 14-year career as an educator, including as a teacher of exceptional children and an assistant principal.
"I feel good," Brissett said of being hired. "I'm excited."
The new principal said she applied for the position because she wanted to move back to her native North Carolina, where she has taught in Robeson and Cumberland counties. Brissett replaces Pam Patterson, who left Scotland High this summer to become principal of Rockingham Middle School in neighboring Richmond County.
The school board also approved the hiring of Richard DeLauney as its new director of technology.
DeLauney is currently the assistant director of technology for Moore County Schools.
Stout described DeLauney as being among the top in the state with technology, having 25 years of experience in the field, mainly for private companies.
Also hired were two assistant principals – Pamela Johnson for North Laurinburg Elementary School and Michelle Bennett for Carver Middle School.
Johnson has spent 18 years as an educator, including seven years working in Scotland County Schools. She currently works in Florence, S.C. Bennett has spent 15 years as a teacher, primarily in a middle school setting.
