CHAPEL HILL- Since the high school season ended back in late May, a quartet of Scotland rising seniors have been busy bettering themselves for the 2011 season.

Scots Softball rising seniors Courtney Collins, Whitney Britt, Lauren Medlin and Sarah Laviner of the Hurricanes Elite 18-and-under Showcase team had the privilege of competing in the ASA Cardinals Classic College Showcase tournament the weekend of July 17 at the University of North Carolina's Anderson Stadium.

The foursome have caught the eye of numerous colleges including Brevard, Lenoir-Rhyne, Elon, Appalachian State, Greensboro and Guilford College.

Hurricanes Elite will compete in the Summer Sparkler tourney on Aug. 7 in Morganton and the Cardinals Late Summer tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Aug. 20 along with several more tournaments scheduled in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia through November.

Laviner, an All-SEC selection this past spring is the catcher for the Hurricanes Elite, honorable mention selection Courtney Collins has been roaming the out field and third base this summer. Two other big pieces of the Hurricanes Elite squad, Whitney Britt and Lauren Medlin, show off their talents at short stop and first base respectively. Medlin has also seen time inside the circle.

The Hurricanes Elite is an 18-and-under Fast-Pitch Softball team is made up of players from all over Eastern North Carolina
