Man killed near Maxton

A man was killed near Maxton when he was struck by a car while crossing Interstate 74 on Tuesday night.

Cedric Galberath, 26, of 104 Mallpass Ave., Red Springs was walking in the eastbound lane when he was struck by a 2004 Honda van at about 11:49 p.m., according to a report by the state Highway Patrol.

Galbreath was wearing dark clothing and walking in the middle of the road at the time.

Denotra Powell, 29, of 70 Crescent St., Lumberton, was traveling east in the van when it struck Galbreath, the report said. Powell was not injured.

The van could not be driven following the accident. Damage was estimated at $3,000.

There was no indication on why Galbreath was in the roadway.

Walking in the middle of a busy road late at night with dark colored clothing will get you most of the time.The article made no mention if Mr, Galbreath had been impaired?
