Plans are underway to bring a popular gospel music program back for its sixth consecutive year when the Kiwanis Club's Gospel Jubilee returns to Laurinburg.

Sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Laurinburg and the Scotland High School Key Club, this year's event brings what Director Cecil Daughtry considers the best program yet.

"The Gospel Jubilee improves each year, both in the number of people who attend and the great performances we have by some of the best gospel music talent in the area," Daughtry said. "All of your favorite performers are returning along with some new groups as well. We have Eastern Sonrise back after a two year absence, we have returning favorites the Hometown Quartet, Echoes of Faith, Betty Odom, and lots more."

Young singing sensation Alyse Player is also scheduled to perform.

Daughtry has said of Player's talent that "This young lady is going places," and that at a previous performance she "really worked the crowd, she sang beautifully, and by the time she was finished she had the audience eating out of her hand. She really nailed the performance."

Richard Tyson, pastor of East Laurinburg Baptist Church, will again provide the sound.

Laurinburg Kiwanis Club President Mac McInnis praised Daughtry for his work in developing the event.

"I want to thank Cecil for all the hard work he puts into the Gospel Jubilee each year," McInnis said. "He does an outstanding job, and always arranges to have good entertainment at the event. I hope as many people as possible will come out to enjoy the program this September."

The concert will be held at the Scotland High School auditorium on Sept. 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission will be $7 with tickets going on sale Aug. 12. See any Kiwanis member or contact Daughtry at 276-6777 or at 280-9632 for tickets and information.

"Please make plans to attend the sixth year of the Gospel Jubliee, the number one Southern gospel music program in this area," Daughtry said. "All proceeds from the event will benefit Kiwanis Club service projects."

The service theme of Kiwanis International is "serving the children of the world".
