Deputies made two drug arrests in separate incidents, including that of a teenager who was growing marijuana in his room.

Christopher Harrison Strickland, 16, of Sneads Grove Road in Laurel Hill was arrested on Thursday afternoon and charged with manufacturing marijuana, according to a sheriff's report. The teen was on probation and is being held at the Scotland County jail without bond.

Investigator Scott Jacobs said Strickland's probation officer was told that the 16-year-old was growing the illicit substance, then observed the plants at the teen's home.

The officer then contacted sheriff's investigators about the case, Jacobs said.

Strickland is on probation for possession of a firearm by a minor, according to the state Department of Corrections.

One of the terms of his probation was not to possess or use illegal drugs, Jacobs said.

The other arrest involved a felon who was apprehended over the weekend on five different counts of drug possession charges after a search turned up three different narcotics in his hotel room, according to a sheriff's report.

Jonathan Trenidy Davis, 29, was arrested at his room in Scotland Inn and charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, the report said.

Davis was questioned about allegations that stolen guns were being harbored by one of the residents of Scotland Inn, according to Investigator Jon Edwards. He consented to a search of his room and deputies discovered 9.3 grams of marijuana, 6.7 grams of cocaine and 36 Hydrocodon pills.

No guns were found in any of the rooms at Scotland Inn, Edwards said.

Davis was placed in Scotland County jail under a $20,000 secured bond.

Davis has a number of prior felony convictions for drug possession, break-ins and thefts, and has spent close to five years in prison, according to the DOC. Davis was most recently released from prison on June 19 after serving a five-month sentence for assault.
