Anthony Trey Lane, 17, of Sugar Road, Laurinburg, is being treated at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at Chapel Hill for third-degree burns to his face, elbows and legs after the Sunday morning blaze, according to Detective Eric Longmire.
Lane was attempting to remove copper wiring from a heating and air conditioning unit at a vacant home at 1500 Stewarstville Road when he severed a gas line, causing an explosion that set the house on fire and injured Lane, according to a Laurinburg police report.
Lane was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital by EMS and was airlifted to Chapel Hill's burn unit for treatment.
No one else was injured in the fire that gutted the home.
No charges have been filed. Longmire said he was meeting with the District Attorney's Office today to determine the charges.
