Fans of professional wrestling should have plenty to "wooo" about Saturday when wrestling legend Ric Flair visits Laurinburg in support of the grand opening of Scotland Motors.

Known as "The Nature Boy" to wrestling fans, Flair's accomplishments during a 37-year career has made him one of the best known personas of the sport.

Scotland Motors Owner Lee Howell is "proud" to have Flair as part of his grand opening kickoff.

"A mutual friend set up the opportunity for Ric Flair to visit us here in Laurinburg," Howell said. "Ric was very receptive to coming, and said that he had fond memories of being here some 30 years ago. We are real proud to get him; with his work for special needs kids, and his support of the military, he will be a real class act for us."

Grand opening festivities will begin on Friday at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony, which will feature appearances by Laurinburg Mayor Matthew Block, County Commissioner J.D. Willis, and Chamber of Commerce representatives. WLNC radio will broadcast live from the dealership from

10:45 a.m. until noon. Light refreshments will be served.

"On Saturday, Ric Flair will appear at Scotland Motors from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.," Howell said. "Get here early, because Ric will personally sign autographs for the first 300 visitors in attendance. And if you purchase a car between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, you are guaranteed both an autograph and a photo with Ric Flair."

Mayor Block will present Flair a key to the city of Laurinburg at 1:15 p.m.

"We will have drawings every 15 to 30 minutes for prizes while the audience waits for Ric," Howell said.

Known for his flamboyant personality and his trademark "wooo" yell, Flair is recognized by the World Wrestling Entertainment Company and the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling Company as a 16 time World Heavyweight Wrestling Champion. Two of his more famous quotes are, "This ain't no garden party, brother, this is wrestling, where only the strongest survive,” and "I'm a limousine ridin', jet flyin', kiss stealin', wheelin' dealin' son of a gun. Wooo!"

Flair was born Richard Morgan Fliehr in 1949 in Memphis, Tenn., but was raised in Minnesota.

Prizes to be given to the first 300 visitors Saturday will include restaurant gift certificates, gasoline cards from Nic's Pic Kwik, Farm Bureau gifts, golf packages, and service vouchers from Scotland Motors.

"The new Scotland Motors offers a full service department," Howell said. "Whether or not your car was purchased from us, you can bring your vehicle in for all your service needs."

A live remote with Mudd Flap and Mattie from radio station Eagle 92.9 will be featured on Saturday.

Scotland Motors' new location is at 1609 South Main Street in Laurinburg.

"We would love for people to come visit for the ribbon cutting on Friday and to see Ric Flair at our all day celebration on Saturday," Howell said. "Let us show you our new sales facility, our new service department, and our stock of more than 300 late model, preowned autos available for purchase. We would love a chance to earn your business."
