Despite their perseverance, Lumberton was just too much for Laurinburg.
Lumberton Border Belt jumped out with seven runs in first inning and never looked back to win the 14-year-old North Carolina Babe Ruth District I Tournament with a 21-9 win over Laurinburg at Legion Park Sunday afternoon.
After Lumberton scored seven runs, Post 50 cut the deficit to 7-5 after the first.
Dustin Canady picked up the win for Lumberton in the championship.
Terrance Rucker led the Robeson County squad with a 3-for-4 performance with a pair of doubles and a walk. Alex Britt went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.
Martin Locklear, Dylan Faulk and Brandon Smith accumulated a hit apiece for Laurinburg.
Elimination Game
Post 50 13, Lumber River 11
Led by a winning pitching performance from Brandon Gibson, Laurinburg eliminated Lumber River, 13-11, Saturday night.
Dylan Faulk drove in three runs while going 1-for-2 with a walk and a pair of sacrifice flies. Brandon Smith paced Post 50 with a 2-for-4 performance with a pair RBIs for Post 50.
Lumber River was led at the dish by Denzel Whittington (2-for-3) and Kenston Locklear (2-for-4) who had two hits apiece with an RBI.
Lumberton 12, Post 50 7
Lumberton knocked Laurinburg into the loser's bracket with a 12-7 win Saturday afternoon.
Dakota Chavis (2-for-3) and Hunter Davis (2-for-4) had two hits apiece for Border Belt. Chavis scored twice with a pair of walks and drove in a run. Davis also drove in a run. Logan Frederick was the winning pitcher.
Teth Cook was Post 50's leading hitter, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
