Authorities on Friday charged Christopher Cox Jr. of Peppermint Drive, Maxton, with first-degree murder in the death of 15-year-old Rochaad Ingram of Alpha Street. Three other juveniles were injured in the shooting.
Cox, who is 19, is being held in the Robeson County jail.
Maxton Police Chief Damon Williams said the arrest was made with the assistance of the State Bureau of Investigation, but released few other details.
Williams said he may talk more about the case at a town board meeting on Tuesday.
Police say at 12:36 a.m. Sunday, Maxton officers were sent to the Hooper Street area after receiving a report of shots being fired. Officers found the victims outside in a residential area.
Officers attempted to resuscitate Ingram before he was rushed to Scotland Memorial Hospital. He was later airlifted to Charlotte.
The other three victims have since been released from the hospital.
Williams said he expects Cox to receive additional charges.
