A Laurinburg teen was the victim of a fatal shooting in Maxton over the weekend.

When officers arrived on the scene after a 12:30 a.m. shooting on Sunday in the Hooper Street area, they attempted to resuscitate the juvenile before he was rushed to Scotland Memorial Hospital by EMS, according to Maxton police.

He was airlifted to Charlotte where he was pronounced dead, Police Chief Damon Williams said.

Three other people were injured, all teens, he said. One required hospitalization, but has since been released.

Williams declined to release their names or any details about the shooting.

If you have any information on the shooting, contact Maxton police at 844-5667 or call the Maxton, Red Springs, and Rowland Crime Stoppers hotline at 785-4475.

It is a sad situation. My heart and prayers go out to the family.Another local paper stated that the young man was only 15yrs.old.I don't know the situation don't want to.But that was a young persons life just wasted. This same paper also stated a pastor and a local official saying that he was worried about rise in violence in the area especially as it pertains to young people.LISTEN UP OFFICIALS as it was said it take a village to raise a child. We cannot sit around and worry.Try to find more ways to get the children involved there is a need in their life they are searching for something. It is bad enough if it had been maybe a 19yr.old,but this is what I call shocking. May this child rest in peace.
