A Scotland County man awaiting trial for murder has been charged in a Maxton home invasion that left one person hospitalized.

Carlton Lee Primus, 20, of Smith Road, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy, first-degree burglary, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharging a firearm into occupied property, according to a sheriff's report.

Bond was set at $250,000 on the new charges; he is being held without bond in Scotland County jail for the murder charge.

Robeson County detectives believe Primus was one of two masked robbers to enter a Hwy. 71 home near Campbell Soup on May 28, 2009.

The Robesonian reported that resident Quinton Sammons and four relatives, including a 2-year-old child, were sleeping in the home at about 11:10 p.m. when they heard several noises. As Sammons walked out of his bedroom into the living room, he was met by two men. One of the men was armed with a handgun and demanded money.

Sammons told the men that he didn’t have any cash and the gunman fired two shots, striking Sammons once in the left hand, the report said. As other family members rushed into the living room, the men fled.

Sammons was treated for the wound at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Nothing was taken in the home.

Primus is the first arrest in the case, according to Detective Brandon Patterson of the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives believe the other suspect is dead. Patterson declined to name the other suspect.

Primus is currently awaiting trial for the slaying of 31-year old Chris McKoy, of Maxton, whose body was found along Rockingham Road near Laurel Hill on Sept. 6. Investigators believe the incident was a robbery gone wrong.

He is also charged with four felony counts of first degree kidnapping, two felony counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a weapon and injury to real property for his alleged involvement in the Family Dollar robbery.

I don't expect this comment to actually show up as I've made comments on three other stories, but have yet to see my comments. Carlton Primus...he was bound to end up right where he's at. Not excusing anything he's done, but if anyone should be able to use his childhood as a defense...he should.
