The Knights men’s soccer schedule features an even distribution of nine Conference Carolinas games and nine non-conference games in hopes of contending within the league and the Southeast Region.
SAPC kicks off the 2010 season at regional foe Mars Hill College on Thursday, Sept. 2. It will be the first meeting between the two in-state institutions in six years. In the last meeting, St. Andrews defeated the Mountain Lions 4-1 in the 2004 season opener.
Two days later, St. Andrews will entertain Florida Southern College – a member of the Sunshine State Conference – in the Knights’ home opener. SAPC had a winning record in Laurinburg in 2009.
The Knights will try and qualify for the Conference Carolinas Tournament for a second straight year with five league games at home and four on the road. St. Andrews will visit Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.), Erskine College, Limestone College, and Barton College while hosting Coker College, Belmont Abbey College, Mount Olive College, Lees-McRae College, and Pfeiffer University.
The Knights non-conference schedule is highlighted by two local rivalry games in September. St. Andrews visits Wingate University on Wednesday, Sept. 8 and entertains UNC Pembroke on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Other Southeast Region contests include trips to USC Aiken (S.C.), North Georgia College & State University, Chowan University, and Catawba College. The Knights also host regional foe Francis Marion University in a late season matchup.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 23. St. Andrews will host Conference Carolinas rival Lees-McRae College that afternoon as part of the 2010 Knights Fest and it will also be designated as SAPC’s ‘Senior Day’. The contest is a rematch of last year’s Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinals game between the Knights and the Bobcats.
St. Andrews will be tested throughout the season including showdowns against four of the eight teams that finished ranked in final NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll (No. 1 Lees-McRae, No. 3 Pfeiffer, No. 6 Francis Marion, & No. 7 Wingate).
The 2010 Conference Carolinas Tournament will once again be three-rounds with the top-eight teams in the regular season standings qualifying for tourney. Teams earn three points for every regular season league win and one point for a tie. All three rounds will be contested at the higher seeds with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 2; the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 5; and the finals on Sunday, Nov. 7.
