Laurinburg passed away on Monday, June 14, 2010 at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Pastor Kenneth Blease and the Rev. David Chavis. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 18 at Hillside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Chavis was born in Scotland County on Aug. 9, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Willie and Pet McFadyen and the beloved wife of the late E.W. Chavis. She was an accountant, retiring from Abbott Laboratories after many years of dedicated service. She was active in her community where she served as the East Laurinburg City Treasurer. Miss Polly faithfully served the Lord and was a very active lifetime member of the Central United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, W.M. McFadyen, Jr., Charles Milton McFadyen and Douglas Gibson.
Miss Polly will be remembered and cherished and loved by her children, sons Rev. David E. Chavis and wife Ethel of Appomattox, Va. and Gary Wayne Chavis of Laurinburg; her daughter, Jeanie Chavis Whitehead and husband Charles of Laurinburg; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. prior to the service on Thursday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
