“This year, 356 local donors generously committed $516,131 to St. Andrews as part of the Laurinburg Area Campaign,” College President Paul Baldasare said. “We are deeply appreciative of the way this community continues to support the College.”
Campaign co-chairs Hew and Martha McCoy Fulton, and a group of dedicated volunteers, brought in 35 first-time donors and helped convince 174 previous donors to increase their contributions.
Supporting St. Andrews is a family tradition for the Fultons, as both families were instrumental in getting St. Andrews to Laurinburg.
Over the generations, several family members have served as members of the Board of Trustees. The families have been strong supporters and fundraisers for the College through the years.
“I remember soon after Martha and I moved back to Laurinburg, Martha’s mother Mary Franklin (McNair McCoy) invited us over for lunch,” Hew said. “After the meal, I thanked her for the wonderful meal and she said to me, ‘I’m glad you enjoyed the meal. Now, if you will just write out a $250 check to St. Andrews.’”
“This year’s campaign benefitted greatly from Martha and Hew’s leadership,” Baldasare said. “The energy and enthusiasm they displayed contributed so much to the success of the campaign. We are deeply grateful to them for their contributions to this campaign and to the College in general.”
St. Andrews is one of the top five employers in Scotland County. The college attracts more than 15,000 visitors annually to the county for various events such as open houses for potential students, the Scottish Heritage Symposium, theatrical productions, musical performances, art shows, equestrian shows and athletic events.
