As part of a statewide 2010 Click it or Ticket campaign, Laurinburg police issuing 246 charges in the first week of the operation, which ran from May 24 through Monday.
"It was some very good activity for our agency," Lt. Fred McQueen said.
According to McQueen, police issued the following charges:
• Five were charged with drug possession
• Four were charged with driving while intoxicated
• 17 were charged with seat belt violations
• Seven were charged with child restraint violations
• 32 were charged with speeding
• 19 were charged with driving while license revoked
• One person was charged with reckless driving
• 104 people were cited for other traffic violations
• 57 criminal charges were issued.
There were also 11 wanted persons charged at the checkpoint.
McQueen said the 11 had "standing warrants that were in the system" for crimes ranging from failure to appear to assault.
The weather did cause some difficulties for officers over the weekend, according to McQueen.
"Our activities were hampered due to the rain," he said.
Several checkpoints were cancelled, including a large, multi-agency checkpoint on Friday.
The sheriff's office also had a checkpoint that yielded 58 charges, according to Lt. Tommy Butler.
Butler said the charges were:
• Four were charged with driving while intoxicated
• 11 were charged with seat belt violations
• Five were charged with child safety seat violations
• Three were charged with driving while license revoked
• Four were charged with failure to move over
• Three were charged with following too closely
• 17 were charged with speeding
• Citation were issued on 13 other charges
The agency had planned a large checkpoint for Memorial Day but that was also canceled due to weather concerns.
The Click-it or Ticket campaign continues through the end of this week.
