Warm weather and partly-cloudy skies are on the forecast for today's Children's Art Festival, sponsored by the Laurinburg Downtown Revitalization Corporation.

"We're looking forward to a great day," Executive Director Mary Robinson said. "We have a lot of activities planned. We would love to see everyone come down here and enjoy it."

The event, which is held in downtown Laurinburg and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature a wide range of food and activities for people of all ages, Robinson said, along with art displayed in each store from elementary schools.

Robinson said the Nazareth Baptist Church Youth Steppers and the Karen Gibson Dancers, scheduled to perform at 11 a.m. and at 11:30 a.m. respectively, both canceled on Friday. She was working on filling those on Friday and hoped to have those spots filled before the 10 a.m. starting time.

The opening ceremony will feature the Scotland High School Junior ROTC Color Guard, with the National Anthem sung by Sommore Terry and a welcome from Mayor Matthew Block. The benches placed around the Anne Slaughter Fountain will be dedicated by LDRC chairman Harley Norris.

Three judges, all professors at St. Andrews Presbyterian College, will visit children's art that is hung in downtown businesses.

The judges are theater professor Mark Mannette, art professor Stephanie McDavid, and education professor Teresa Reynolds.
