The Scotland soccer team, who finished the third in the Southeastern Conference standings behind runner-up Lumberton and conference champion Pinecrest, earned themselves a home playoff game for the first time since the 2008 season.
The Scots (8-9-2) will host Durham Riverside (10-7-1) out of the PAC-6 conference.
Both squads finished third in their respective conferences but because the Southeastern Conference has higher priority seeding, they get the home game.
Scotland is led by senior goal scorer Josie Yang, who has 25 goals on the season.
The senior is joined in double-digit goals by freshman Greta Griswold with 10.
Scotland is no strangers to teams from the PAC-6 conference. The Scots girl’s basketball team took on Southern Durham, one of the Pirates conference foes, in the State 4-A playoffs back in February.
After earning a share of the Southeastern Conference title with rival Richmond, the Scotland softball team will be back in action this evening.
The Scots, who earned the No.2 seed in this week’s SEC Conference tournament, will take on the team that helped them earn a share of the conference title, Purnell Swett.
The third-seeded Rams, who come in with a 16-7 record, defeated No. 6 Hoke County Monday evening.
The Scotland tennis team (10-2) will also be returning to the courts on Wednesday.
The Scots will be traveling to the Wildcats of New Hanover High School out of the Mideastern Conference at 5 p.m.
New Hanover (15-7) got to the second round by sweeping undefeated Clayton (16-1) in singles action last Tuesday.
The winner will move onto next week’s Sectional finals.
