Local soccer camps to be held this summer

Kids from Scotland County and surrounding counties will have an opportunity to learn more about the game of soccer this summer.

The Scotland Parks and Recreation will be holding a summer soccer camp Jun. 14-17 at the James K. Morgan Complex on Turnpike Road.

The camp will run from 9-11 a.m. for kids ages 4-6 and from 9-noon for ages 7-18.

Cost of registration is $40 for ages 4-6 and $50 for ages 7-18.

The mission of the camp is to provide players with a camp that challenging, competitive and fun.

Each training seeson is designed to reinforce the fundamental skills and tactics that each player needs.

The highlight of each day is the competitive games, which give the players an opportunity to practice what they have learned in game situations.

Along with the training sessions, at the end of each day, players are allowed to cool in the Splash Pad, so it is advised that they bring towels and a change of clothing along with their soccer gear.

Coaches for this cam will be Colin McDavid, the head boy's and girl's soccer coach at Scotland High School, Heidi Poage, jayvee' girl's soccer coach, Bennie Howard, the head boy's and girl's soccer coach at Richmond High School, Rebekah Smith, jayvee' coach at Richmond High and Leto Alibaruho, Scotland High assistant soccer coach, former college standout and memeber of the USSF B License league.

Fighting Scots soccer camp coming up in July

Scotland High School will be offering two soccer camps for players ages 5-18 this coming summer.

The camps will take place on two different weeks during the month of July. The first one will take place on July 12-15 from 9 a.m.-noon. The second camp will take place on July 26-29 with the same start time.

The camp will be held on the practice fields at Scotland High School. If you sign up, make sure to come prepared with the appropriate soccer equipment, soccer shoes and shin guards. You will also need regular tennis shoes for indoor play.

Staffing the camp will be Scotland Coach Colin McDavid, Richmond Coach Bennie Howard, Scotland assistant Heidi Poage and E.E. Smith Coach Marvin Andrade.

The goal of the camp is to provide players with great training sessions to improve their game and help them to play at a higher level. All phases of the game are covered with emphasis on technical and tactical skills.

Cost of the camp is $60 for one week and $100 for two weeks. If two or more children from one family are enrolled it is just $50 a week per child.
