Scotland’s Sey’yan Moody picked up first place finishes in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. His performances earned him runner-up for the MVP award.
SOUTHERN PINES-Competing in its first meet without former Coach Wes Mattera, the Scotland boys track team had all the motivation that they needed to succeed Wednesday.

The Scots picked up eight first-place finishes and compiled a season-high 198 points, beating out second-place Pinecrest (159 points) to earn this spring’s Southeastern Conference championship.

For Scotland, it is the first conference title since 2002.

The Scots Lamont Browne and Pinecrest’s Maurice Ervin tied each other in the high jump but it was Browne who earned the top finish.

Kershawn Quick earned a top finish in the triple jump with a leap of 44-feet, 1-inch, while Lonnell Henderson (133-feet, 3-inches) and Trevor Harris (129-feet, 11-inches) finished first and second in the discus throw.

Scotland’s Sey’yan Moody took home first in the 110-meter hurdles while Robert McNeil, Browne and James Anderson finished second through fourth respectively.

The sophomore Moody also had a top finish in the 300-meter hurdles. McNeil finished runner-up.

The Scots took home first in two of the four relay events.

Josh Quirk, Malcolm Jones, Tony McRae and Isaiah Robinson beat out Lumberton by 54-hundredths of a second in the 4x200-meter relay (they finished second in the 4x100 relay) and Anderson, Jaron Wright, Travis Wall and Semje Pegues won the 4x400 relay by more than six seconds over the Pirates (3:35.31), who finished with 83 points for a third place finish.

Scotland finished second in the other two relay events.

The team of Tyler Dennis, Trevin Hoskins, Johnny Wimbish and Joe Monroe were on the 4x800 team.

Wright finished second in the 400-meter dash while Ray finished runner-up in the 200-meter dash.
