St. David's Episcopal Church in Laurinburg will host the second annual art show and sale this weekend for students of Covington Street Elementary School, located next door to the church. The event begins today from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with a showing for parents, and will be open to the public on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. Punch and cookies will be served today.

Art instructors Angela Bisbee and Lisa Prefontaine chose about 40 items to be included in this year's show.

"The pieces of art to be sold are those picked from work that the students have done throughout the year," Bisbee said. "We have some interesting items that show the talent possessed by these emerging young artists."

Art will be displayed by students in grades K-5, with proceeds from the event used toward the purchase of art supplies for Covington Street school.

Vicar Marty Stebbins of St. David's said her church is happy to provide space for the event.

"We are ecstatic to collaborate with Covington Street School for another year in order to showcase these bright and creative minds," Stebbins said. "We hope the entire community will come view and perhaps purchase a piece of this wonderful art; one hundred percent of the proceeds will go back to the school."

St. David's Episcopal Church is located at the corner of Azure Court and Covington Street. Admission to the event is free.
