The description of the robbers was similar to that of the men responsible for robbing a Maxton grocery last week.
A customer was leaving Lucky Sweepstakes #2, located at 7941 McColl Road, on Tuesday just after 3:30 a.m. when two masked men entered the business brandishing guns, according to Sheriff Shep Jones
The men were wearing black ski masks, hoodies, black pants and black shoes. One robbery, a dark-skinned black, had a handgun while the other, a light-skin black male, held a rifle, Jones said.
The man with a handgun held his weapon to the customers head and took her to another room that had three other customers, Jones said.
He then told store employee Nathaniel Dockery, 55, of Laurinburg to sit down,. putting the gun against Dockery's head.
The other robber then pointed his rifle at employee Willie McCoy, 55, of Laurel Hill, demanding cash from the register.
McCoy gave the man an undisclosed amount of money. The man also took McKoy's cell phone.
The robber did not believe McKoy had given him all the money and demanded more. When McKoy again said there was no more money, the robber said "I should shoot you."
The other robber told him they should leave and they left.
Deputies recovered a silver .25 caliber semiautomatic handgun in the woods near the business. Jones believes it may be the same gun used in the robbery.
The description of the two robbers is nearly identical to those pictured in surveillance footage of the robbery of the County Line Grocery in Maxton on April 19. The store owner has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the pair.
This is the second time Lucky Sweepstakes #2 has been robbed.
On Easter, two masked men in dark clothing entered the store. One was brandishing a handgun and demanded money. The pair left in the clerk's vehicle, which was later found at St. Andrews Presbyterian College with $3,100 in cash inside the vehicle.
Investigators are still looking for the pair from the prior robbery.
This is the third robbery of a sweepstakes business the sheriff's office has investigated and the seventh in Scotland County since August – the other four were inside the city limits of Laurinburg.
