For Scotland though, the numbers game caught up to them.
The Pirates found the back of the net four times in the first half and handed the Scots an 8-1 setback on Senior Night at Pate Stadium.
Lumberton improved to 12-5 overall and 7-2 in the Southeastern Conference while Scotland dropped to 7-7-1 and 4-5 in conference.
"When we played them (Lumberton) the first time, we realized they had a deep bench, and some exceptional players," Scotland Coach Colin McDavid said. "We had one player just not even show up so I had to make some adjustments but everyone knows what to do when they're on the field, so no excuses. We had to move a few players down to jayvee' so that they would have a full roster."
The Pirates jumped right out of the gate in the first half, scoring just 1:10 into the game on a goal from Damilia Brooks.
Lumberton would go on to score four goals in the first nine minutes of the half.
"We wanted to come out and play well," said Pirates Coach Kenny Simmons. " We were coming off a tough loss to Terry Sanford. We jumped on them (Scotland) pretty quick and got off to a great start, almost a perfect start."
Brooks, a junior, finished with a hat trick and an assist.
The Scots avoided the shut out as Josie Yang, weaved her way through the Lumberton defenders for a goal with 32:59 to play in the game.
"Bottom line is that the girl's never gave up," McDavid said. "They were out played, outclassed a little bit tonight but they kept playing and that says alot on senior night and now we go into the game against Richmond with alot at stake. Third place is on the line, a home game in the first round of the conference tournament and a better draw in the playoffs."
Lauri Beth Coleman added a pair of goals for Lumberton in the winning effort.
