Scotland’s Kwashawn Quick beats out an infield hit in the first inning of Friday afternoon’s contest. The Scots lead-off scored twice in the win.
It seems to be a trend for the Scotland jayvee’ baseball team. They start out strong, but can’t quite put teams away until late in the game.

The same scenario happened Friday afternoon.

The Scots picked up three early runs but it was a nine-run rally in the bottom of the fourth to put the finishing touches on a 13-3 win over Hoke County at McCoy Field.

Despite the win, Scotland assistant Stewart Redding was not 100-percent pleased following the game.

"That seems to be the trend for alot of our games lately," said Redding. "We start off with a bang. Score a few runs and instead of hammering away, putting the nail in the coffin, we come out for two innings and just look like we're not there and we'll come back and score a few more and the final score is not indicative of the effort."

After the Scots put a three-spot up in the first, the Bucks (2-13-1, 0-7 SEC) cut the deficit to 3-2 following an RBI single from Laquanta Bratcher and a sacrifice fly from Christ Carter in the top of the third.

Scotland (14-2, 6-2) got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple from Blake Bennett. The freshman finished with two hits and drove in a pair of runs while scoring two himself.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Scots blew the game open with nine runs, including a two-run single from Hayden Buffkin and RBI singles from Kris Tyndall and Johnny Mintz.

Mintz, like Bennett, finished with two hits, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Scotland got another solid outing from Will Gover in the win.

Gover (4-1) went the distance in the five-inning game, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits to go along with a walk and seven strikeouts.

"Will's (Gover) been solid for us all season. We expect that kind of outing out of him every time and for the most part, he's done that," Redding said.

Scotland will remain at home when they host Anson County at 5 p.m. Monday afternoon.
