The Scotland track team had a battle on its hands Thursday afternoon.

In the end, the Scots emerged victorious for the sixth time this spring.

Scotland took home nine first place finishes, ending up with 88.5 points for the top finish in the first of two consecutive meets at Pate Stadium.

The Scots beat out second-place Pinecrest (55.5) by 33 points. Third place Richmond finished with 29 points.

“I thought this was the most competitive meet of the year with both Richmond and Pinecrest being there,” Scotland Coach Wes Mattera said. “Even though we won, we didn’t have our best day in several areas.”

After placing second in the 3200-meter relay, Robert McNeil brought home first in the 110 hurdles.

Tony McRae earned himself a spot at regionals with his first place finish in the 100-meter dash with Isaiah Robinson finishing second.

McRae and Robinson along with Josh Quirk, Malcolm Jones, and Shaq Ray, put together top finishes in both the 4x200 and 4x100 relay races.

Trevor Harris earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the discus and shot-put competitions.

After Jeron Wright won the 400-meter dash, Sey’yan Mooday won the 300-hurdles, with James Anderson’s second place finish, qualifying him for regionals.

Lamont Browne almost picked up the triple crown by winning both the high and triple jumps and a runner-up finish in the long jump.

Following Jones’ win in the 200-meter dash, Anderson, Moody and Wright, along with Travis Wall set its best time in the 4x400 relay race.

Despite the win, Mattera knows that there are things to work on over the next couple of weeks.

“If we are going to win the conference meet we are going to have to be more polished in the jumps, the hand offs on relays, and in the sprint,” said Mattera. “Both Pinecrest and Richmond will have the pole vault and good throwers in the conference, which means we have to be sharp in every other area.”
