Demarkeis McInnis,13, and Regina Brown -Thompson, both students of Sa-Bum Kenny Morrison, passed their respective examinations to become certified black belts.
Under the examination of master instructor Mike Durkins, McInnis, who has four years of experience under his belt, earned his junior black belt.
Brown-Thompson, a three-year martial artist, earned the title of first-degree black belt.
Morrison is very pleased to see that his students hard work and dedication has paid off.
“I’m very proud of the two examinees. They worked very hard and diligently toward their goals,” said Morrison. “I look forward to good things from them in their future on the competitive level.”
To become a black belt, both McInnis and Brown-Thompson had to pass a series of tests.
Those tests included using traditional taekwando, questions about knowledge of taekwando, one-step sparring, which is defending one’s self against a single attack.
Three-step sparring, which is defending against multiple attackers, is also on the exam, along with self-defense, knife defense and one-on-one sparring.
