The Williams brothers had big days for SAPC as they accounted for seven of the Knights 12 base knocks on the afternoon. Senior Samson Williams was 4-for-5 with his team-high sixth homer of the season while junior Manny Williams collected three hits in the opener.
GAME ONE: St. Andrews 5, North Greenville 2
Crawford only allowed one hit over the first six innings and then survived a last inning rally by North Greenville as St. Andrews won the first game by three runs. Crawford (2-4) had a season-high six strikeouts in his third complete game performance of the season.
The Knights offense provided Crawford with some early run support before he even took the mound. Manny Williams led off the game with a single and quickly stole second base before Michael Cantwell drove him in with his own single. After Cantwell also swiped second, senior Josh Axelsen knocked in the second run with a sacrifice fly.
GAME TWO: North Greenville 15, St. Andrews 3
The NGU bats heated up in the second game, scoring 15 runs on 15 hits to salvage a split of the twin bill with a 15-3 victory in the nightcap.
St. Andrews once again jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, this time on a two-run blast by Samson Williams after Cantwell singled. Samson Williams had three of the Knights five hits including a run-producing single in the fifth as the senior accounted for all of SAPC’s run production.
Senior David Carbonell – the reigning Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week – was charged with the loss even though only one of his nine runs surrendered was earned.
