They definitely made the most of their home field advantage.
Scotland placed first in 12 of the 17 events on their way to accumulating 102 points during Thursday’s meet at Pate Stadium.
The Lady Scots scored 80 points more than second place Lumberton (42 points). Hoke County brought up the pack with 27 points.
Along with the win, Scotland added 13 more qualifiers for the East Regionals. Coach Shelly Barnes believes this is a reward for all of the hard work in practice.
“The girls looked really strong in several events today and took first place in 12 of 17 events. Thirteen girls qualified for regional competition and the 4x1Relay, 4x2Relay, and the 4x4 Relay also qualified,” said Barnes. “We have girls jumping farther, running faster, and throwing better each meet, which is a testament to the work getting done in practice.”
Ariel Gates and Taborah Hollingsworth, both of Scotland, tied for first in the high jump when each girl cleared 4-feet, 8-inches.
Shantel Smith won the girl’s long jump at 16-feet and 10.25 inches. The Lady Scots ended up taking three of the top four spots.
Smith continued her success in the sand by winning the triple jump with a leap of 34-feet, 6.5 inches.
Along with Smith, the other three places in the triple jump were occupied by Scotland participants.
Shiera Hall, Akieba Bittle and Decausha McLean finished second through fourth.
After not finishing first in the shot put or the discus, the Lady Scots dominated the 100-meter hurdles with Ariel Gates winning the race with a time of 15.16 seconds.
Tamaya Bennett, Ariana Jones and Aatianna Williams also picked up points for Scotland in the event.
Following the Lady Scots first and second place finishes in 100-meter dash, they would sweep both the 3200-meter relay (12:02.5) and the 800-meter relay (1:50.4).
Barbara Horne (6:44.8), Courtney Poole (6:50.8) and Erin Paul (7:32.4), placed second through fourth in the 1600-meter dash.
Scotland took first in the 400-meter relay with a time of 51.21 seconds. The Lady Bucks took second, finishing in 52.53 seconds.
Ariana Jones (52.42 seconds) placed first as four of the five spots in the 300-meter hurdles were taken by the Lady Scots. Ariel Ratcliff (55.54 seconds) and Williams (55.64 seconds) finished second and third respectively. Bennett (56.1 seconds) finished fifth.
Gates finished first in the 200-meters with a time of 26.38 seconds.
After Horne (15:36.9) and Poole (15:38.4) got first and second respectively in the 3200-meter run, took home the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:16.3
"In this conference, we need to focus on meeting certain marks and times to continue to prepare for bigger meets. Yes, I'm proud of the win tonight, but we really haven't been challenged yet," said Barnes. "I know Pinecrest is good and hasn't showed us everything; so we still have much work to do. Overall, the girls are right on pace for where we are in the season and I'm really proud of them."
The Lady Scots next meet at Hoke, which was originally scheduled for next Thursday, has been moved up to next Wednesday at 4 p.m.
