The funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Candor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pat Sykes and the Rev. David Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the Candor Cemetery.
Mrs. Coppedge was born in Montgomery County on March 28, 1930, the daughter of Joseph D. and Rosa Moore Saunders. She retired from the banking industry after 36 years of service, working 30 years with the Bank of Candor and six years with its successor First Bank. She was a former member at Candor United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Maxton and was a current member at St. Luke Methodist Church in Laurinburg. While at Candor UMC, she served as circle chairperson three times, recording secretary four times, an assistant Sunday School teacher, was a member of the parsonage committee for 15 years, two years as chairman, was chairman of the yard sales and auction committee to raise funds for the parsonage and was in the choir for 50 years. In 1995 she was honored for service to the church. She was a former member of the Candor Woman’s Club, where she had served as president. She was a member of Eastern Star Chapter 111 of Biscoe for 30 years, and a member of VFW Post 9881 Auxiliary in Biscoe for 10 years and had served as president. She was preceded in death by her husbands, J. C. Myers in 1999 and William Coppedge in 2005.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, Mary Neil Coppedge Morris of Laurinburg and Alice McBryde Coppedge of Asheville; a nephew, Arnold R. Lambert Jr. of Southern Pines; a niece, Linda Lambert McInerney of Needham Mass.; cousins, Roy Harvel of Pinehurst and Mrs. Burlein Fortner of Southern Pines; three sisters-in-law, Catherine Fox Thomas of Candor, Maxine Thomas Myers of High Point and Josephine Johnson Myers of Candor; two brothers-in-law, Ray Lambert and wife Barbara of West End and Roy Myers and wife Carol of Biscoe; two stepgrandchildren, Austin Morris and wife Mariah of Greensboro and Sara Wilkerson and husband Ronnie of Laurinburg.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service on Sunday at Candor UMC and other times at the home of Catherine Thomas.
