What they got was a battle with Richmond Green Thursday afternoon.
That is, until the sixth inning.
The Scots blew the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth, to remain undefeated with a 13-4 win at Legion Park.
“The game was tight for five innings and it was closer than it should have been,” said Scotland coach David Barnes. “They (Richmond) kept it close until we busted it open in the sixth.”
After Scotland put up four runs in the first, Richmond cut the lead in half with two in the second.
Cody Freeman turned in a 3-for-4 day at the plate with six RBIs, including a two-run double in the top of the fifth to make it a 6-2 game.
The Raiders Cody Wilson cut the lead to two (6-4) again in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer to straight away centerfield.
That long ball signaled the end of the day for Scots pitcher, Dakota Graves.
Improving to 3-0 on the season, Graves threw 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and struck out a season-low seven batters.
Blake Bennett came in and shut the door on the Raiders comeback, not allowing a hit and striking out one in his 1.1 innings of relief.
“Both boys did a good job on the mound and threw strikes,” Barnes said.
Bennett helped himself at the plate as well, going 2-for-5, with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 7-4 game, after Justin Brown and Nick Smith reached on errors before Bennett.
After a two-run single from Freeman, Bradley Baines came off the bench and smacked a two-run single to left.
Hayden Buffkin complimented Freeman and Bennett with a 2-for-4 day at the plate, which included an RBI triple in the sixth.
Despite finishing just 1-for-1, Martin Locklear drew three walks and drove in two runs.
