St. Andrews next hosts Coker College in a Conference Carolinas clash Saturday, with the twin bill starting at 2 p.m.
GAME ONE: Erskine 7, St. Andrews 0
Erskine held the Knights to just a pair of first inning hits en route to a 7-0 victory in the opener. Senior Lauren Gunter tossed the first five innings to pick up the win while freshman Kelsey Spurrier was credited with the save tossing the final two innings to complete the shutout.
The Flying Fleet scored one run in each of the first three innings before scoring four unearned runs in the seventh to pull away. Senior leadoff batter Kelly Davis filled up the box score with three singles, three runs scored, two stolen bases, and a walk. Freshman Morgan Purcell had the games only extra base hit, a two-run double down the left field line in the seventh.
Gunter (3-3) fanned nine batters over five innings for the win while Spurrier had a pair of strikeouts as Erskine posted 11 total K’s in the contest.
SAPC got back-to-back singles by sophomore Kaitlin Harris and Marquez in the bottom of the first but Gunter got out of the early jam with a strikeout. The Knights would be held hitless for the final six innings as Erskine retired 19 of the 21 batters faced.
Marquez (0-6) took the loss in the complete-game performance, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits and eight walks.
GAME TWO: Erskine 8, St. Andrews 1
Freshman Krissy Hendrick earned her first collegiate win, holding St. Andrews to just one run in the complete-game performance as the Flying Fleet completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in the nightcap.
Hendrick (1-5) scattered four hits over seven innings, and only gave up a solo home run to Marquez in the fifth.
Marquez provided SAPC with its lone run when she smoked a line drive over the right-center field fence to lead off the fifth, her third round-tripper of the year. Marquez added a single in the seventh to account for half of the Knights four hits.
Senior Courtney Davis started the scoring for the visitors with her league leading 13th home run of the season, a solo shot to lead off the second. Erskine scored twice in both the second and third innings and added one more run in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead before Marquez put the Knights on the board.
The Fleet batted around in the sixth, scoring three more runs to pull away for another seven-run victory. Junior Lindsey LaPrad and freshman Larissa Shannon highlighted the late outburst with consecutive run-producing doubles.
Shannon drove in a team-high four RBI including a two-run blast in the third, her fifth homer of the season. Davis and freshman Melanie Henderson combined for half of Erskine’s 12 hits with three base knocks apiece.
Senior starter Daisy Mendez took the loss for St. Andrews, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits over the first three frames.
