FAYETTEVILLE- The Scotland jayvee’ softball team put up nine runs in the first inning and never looked back as they shutout Terry Sanford, 18-0, in three innings.

"It was a good win for the jayvee' softball team," Scotland Coach Joel McCanna said. "We were able to jump on the early and kept Terry Sanford off the base paths."

Cori Newton tossed a perfect game, needing just 34 pitches in the three innings of work. She did her part at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Casey Holm went 2-for-2 while Destiny Morrison finished 2-for-3. Alexis Mishue went 1-for-2 and scored four times.

In baseball action, Scotland’s Will Gover matched his female counterpart and tossed a no-hitter in a 12-0 win over the Bulldogs.

Of Gover’s 60 pitches, 45 of them were strikes.

Kris Tyndall paced the Scots with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a triple and three runs scored.

Derek Barnes went 1-for-3 with three runs and led off the game with a home run.

Johnny Mintz and Daniel Walters both went 1-for-3 with Mintz driving three and Walters scoring three times.

Gover allowed just four runners to reach base but got some defensive help from a pair of turned double plays.

Scotland will return to the diamond today when they host Southeastern Conference foe, Purnell Swett at 5 p.m
