“We have not beaten Pinecrest since 1997. These young men have worked very hard so far this season and the hard work was evident in their play today,” Scotland coach Jeanne Roller said. “I am extremely proud of each and every one of these young men.”
After Josiah Boda dropped the No.1 match to the 2009 M-SEC player of the year, Pinecrest’s Dana Parziale, the Scots picked up a strong win with Will McDonald defeating Will Davis in No.2 singles.
After McDonald won the first set, 6-3, he trailed 5-4 in set two before battling back to take the match, 7-5.
Andrew Smith of Scotland, defeated the Patriots Ethan Kavanaugh in the No.4 singles. Smith dropped the first set, 6-2, before taking the second one, 6-2 and then defeated Kavanaugh, 10-7, in the tiebreaker.
Scotland (1-0) led 4-2 after singles competition, thanks to Allen Michael Minnick and Walt Hughes winning their matches in straight sets.
Pinecrest made things interesting by cutting the lead to 4-3, after taking the first doubles match from Boda and Smith.
McDonald and Tyler Minnick put the game away in the No.2 doubles competition with a convincing 8-1 win.
Allen Michael Minnick and Hughes won the third and final doubles match, 8-5.
The Scots will be back in action today at 4 p.m. when they travel to Purnell Swett.
