Scotland’s defense has done its part in the early season to keep themselves in many games.

Tuesday night though, the Lady Scots defenders broke down late and their opponent took advantage.

Fueled by two second half goals, South View improved to 2-2-2 on the year with a 2-0 win over the Lady Scots on a cool and overcast night at Pate Stadium.

“I think our defense was getting tired late in the game because we were not keeping possession long enough for them to get a break,” Scotland coach Colin McDavid said. “ South View just beat us in all areas of the game and beat us to the ball.”

The Lady Tigers kept the ball on their side of the field for most of the first half as they had eight shot attempts, compared to just two for Scotland (2-2-1).

The Lady Scots Destinee Grove came up with a few big stops in the first 40 minutes, to keep the score tied at zero after the first half.

The freshman goalkeeper had eight stops on the night.

“Hats off to her because as a freshman she has alot of pressure on her and she’s doing a fine job,” McDavid said of his goalkeeper.

Josie Yang had a chance to notch her ninth goal of the season with 24:09 left but her attempt went off the crossbar.

As a team, Scotland had just five shots on goal.

“We need to find someone else to help Josie (Yang) up top,” said McDavid of finding a second option to compliment the senior. “She does not have the help that she needs.”

South View’s Cassandra Serje netted both of the goals for the Lady Tigers.

The first one came with 22:26 to play as her shot went just out of the reach of Groves. Serje added an insurance goal 12 minutes later for the final tally.

Jordan Lafon picked up the shutout for the Lady Tigers in goal.

The Lady Scots open up Southeastern Conference play tonight when they travel to Purnell Swett for a 7 p.m. tilt.

In jayvee’ action, Scotland’s Shalisa Salters scored the lone goal in a 7-1 loss to the Lady Tigers.
