The Ambassador Committee has always been sharp when it comes to serving the Laurinburg/Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce’s membership.

With a recent donation from the group to the chamber, they hope to better serve new members and businesses at ribbon cuttings. The committee raised money to pay for a set of 3-foot-long set of stainless steel scissors.

“The purchase of the scissors was made possible with the money collected by the Ambassador Committee at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet and several Business After Hours events,” said Vic Celadon, chairman for the committee.

The committee volunteered to work a coat check at the Annual Awards Dinner and Membership Meeting in January, and over the last year, Ambassadors helped to serve food and drinks at various Business After Hours events, which were held monthly. At each event, the group put out a tip jar. Money from tips went into a general fund for the committee to spend how they’d like.

However, instead of using the money for a group luncheon or dinner, Ambassadors decided to donate their earnings back to the Chamber. “The group was discussing what to do with the funds from last year, and the scissors idea came up,” said Matt Kendall, program director. “Everyone thought it was a great idea, and now we have a proper pair of ribbon cutting scissors. It really shows how dedicated our Ambassadors are to the chamber and its membership.”

Celadon said the reason the purchase was made is all thanks to the membership.

“We wanted to say thank you to the local business community that attended these events and contributed," he said. "We certainly hope they will be used often to celebrate the grand opening of new businesses, big and small, in our county.”

The scissors are available for use by members of the Chamber, and are for rent by non-members.

For information, call the chamber at 276-7420.
