The Scotland jayvee’ baseball team has been swinging some hot bats to begin the season.

That trend continued in the wet conditions Wednesday evening.

The Scots scored six runs in the first two innings and swept the season series from Jack Britt with a 13-3 victory at a soggy McCoy Field.

Scotland coach Michael Sellers was pleased that the boys were able to put the ball in the play despite the less than ideal weather.

“The boys can swing the bats and they hit alot of balls in gaps, had alot of doubles,” Sellers said. “That’s been our forte and we hope to continue that the rest of the year.”

Daniel Walters put Scotland on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single.

Walters would later score when William Adams reached on an error, before a two-run single from Johnny Mintz made it 4-0 after an inning of play.

Mintz would lead the charge for the Scots, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three runs scored.

Walters added another run in the bottom of the second on an RBI double. Kris Tyndall followed up with an RBI double of his own to make it 6-1 after two innings.

The guys on the mound did their part to keep the Buccaneer hitters at bay.

Adams picked up the win, allowing just three runs (none of them earned) on only two hits and did not walk anybody in four innings of work.

Hayden Buffkin came in and pitched the final two innings, and did not allow a hit.

“William (Adams) did a super job today. He threw strikes, got out in front,” said Sellers. “We talked about how important it was to throw first pitch strikes and he did that.”

Besides, Mintz, Derek Barnes and Jeremy Osteen had two hits apiece for the Scots.

“I thought the rain dampened a few things for us , but we still managed to bang out quite a few hits,” said Sellers on the hitting. “We were able to use our speed to our advantage by stealing alot and utilizing the hit-and-run.”

Scotland will look to improve to 5-0 when they host Anson on Friday at 5 p.m.
