For five innings, Pine Forest pitcher Kayla Chambers baffled the Scotland hitters.

Then came the sixth inning.

The Lady Scot hitters put up five runs in the bottom of the sixth and turned a 3-1 deficit into a 6-3 win in non conference action Monday afternoon.

“I just told the girls if we continue to just hit the ball hard, then we’re going to have a good inning,” Scotland coach Patrick Williams said about the sixth inning. “Taylor (Hale) had another fine outing and we expect that from her.”

The Lady Trojans scored all their runs in the top of the first.

Amber Nice made it 1-0 before a two-run double from Kelsey Haddock put Pine Forest up 3-0 after an inning of play.

“On the first run scored it was a routine hit that we did not make a play on,” said Williams on Pine Forest’s first run. “We made an error and they (Pine Forest) capitalized on it. At this level, you need to be able to make routine plays like that.”

Shae Barnes got the Lady Scots on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run.

Scotland (2-1) got back-to-back RBI doubles from Lauren Medlan and Courtney Collins to tie the game at three.

Sara Cross gave the Lady Scots the lead, 4-3, on an RBI single. Scotland went up 6-3 on a two-run single from Whitney Britt.

Pine Forest had their chance in the top of the seventh with two runners on and one out, but a pair of putouts by Lindsay Wright ended the threat.

Taylor Hale improved to 2-1 on the year, pitching a complete game with three strikeouts. Chambers suffered the loss for the Lady Trojans despite going the distance.

Brittany Gibson led the way with two of the Lady Scots eight hits, finishing 2-for-4.

Britt and Barnes each went 1-for-4.
