GREENSBORO-The future of the Scotland wrestling program looks very bright.

A pair of impressive performances at last weekend’s state wrestling tournament are the reason why.

Nick Kee capped off a 39-2 freshman season with a bronze medal finish in the 140-pound division at the state tournament.

The Southeastern Conference champion finished undefeated in SEC matches along with a second place finish at the Eden Holiday Classic.

Kee also took first place at both the Feud in the Forest and Boneyard Bash tournaments.

Along with those finishes, Kee made history by becoming the first ninth-grader to ever win a regional championship as a freshman.

During the competition in Greensboro, he became the first freshman to win a match in the state tournament and the first freshman to ever place in the tournament.

Kee finished the season with a No.3 ranking in the state.

Rakeem “Red” Covington, completed his first year of wrestling with a 24-9 record and finished ninth in the 189-pound division at the state tournament.

The sophomore, like Kee, was a Southeastern Conference champion and one of the big highlights from the regular season being an 8th-place finish at the Eden Holiday Classic.

Covington finished third at the regionals behind the eventual state champion and state runner-up, to qualify for the state tournament.

With his finish in Greensboro, Covington completed his season ranked ninth in the state.
