In Scotland baseball’s season opener, you could compare Curt Britt to the handyman.

He did just about everything for the Scots Monday afternoon.

The sophomore went 2-for-3 at the plate and kept Jack Britt batters off balance from the mound in a 3-0 win at McCoy Field.

Britt threw four innings of no-hit ball with six strikeouts.

“I felt the pressure to come out and start the season off with a bang,” said Britt.

Scotland took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI groundout from Damien Burr and Britt gave the Scots a two-run (2-0) cushion with an RBI single in the third.

After four innings, Britt’s night was done as Coach Tommy Britt handed the ball off to Josh Collins, who came in and threw three innings of shutout ball, giving up just a pair of hits.

The Scots added a third run in the bottom of the sixth as a double steal was performed during (Curt) Britt’s at-bat.

Jack Britt (1-0) threatened just one time in the ball game when they had two runners in scoring position and only one out.

The Bucs were unable to get anything out of it as they fell victim to an inning-ending double play.

Despite the bats not waking up in the first game of the season, Coach Britt is just pleased to get the win.

“I’ll take an opening day win anyway we can get it,” Coach Britt said. “(Curt) Britt and Josh (Collins) did a great job for us on the mound. The team played real good defense behind them and anytime that you have a shutout, it’s big.”

Jaron Caton took the loss for the Bucs, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out six in 4.1 innings.

“We had some timely hits in the game that benefited us,” said Britt. “We were able to capitalize on a double steal in the sixth. Overall, good effort, I’m real proud of these guys, we just got to keep getting better.”
