Carl Wayne Britt, 38, of Pryor Drive,w as arrested Thursday and charged with trafficking opium/heroine, according to Sheriff's Investigator Jon Edwards. Britt was placed in the Scotland County jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
Edwards said the Scotland County Sheriff's Office received a call about a suspicious vehicle in Laurel Hill on Thursday. Several patrol deputies saw the vehicle in the parking lot at a garage on U.S. 74 in Laurel Hill with Britt standing beside the car talking to someone.
Deputies searched Britt, finding 39 Percocet pills worth about $400, Edwards said.
No addition drugs were found in the vehicle.
Britt has spent nearly a decade behind bars on a myriad of other charges, according to the North Carolina Department of Corrections. He has been convicted of 24 counts of fraud, four counts or breaking and entering, four counts of larceny, two counts of possession of stolen goods and on count of assault.
Britt is currently on probation in New Hanover County on fraud charges and driving while license revoked.
