“I am pleased to have this opportunity to serve on this commission. This appointment will allow me to serve both the House of Representatives and the people of my district who have a strong interest in child fatality issues,” Pierce said.
Established in 1991, the Child Fatality Task Force is a legislative study commission that aims to reduce the number of preventable child deaths.
The commission will undertake statistical studies of incidences and causes of child deaths; establish profiles of deaths, develop systems for multidisciplinary review of child deaths; and perform studies, evaluations or determinations necessary to achieve the mandate. It will report annually to the Governor and to the North Carolina General Assembly.
Pierce is a retired United Parcel Service employee, a Baptist minister living in Scotland County and three-term House Representative.
